Why Dominos?

Published: December 31, 2024 - Updated: March 23, 2025

Over on Terence Eden’s Blog He made a post yesterday Titled Most people don't care about quality it was mostly about how "normal" people don't care about the small thing that experts in a given field care about.

He gave a few examples for does it really matter? One of which made me laugh out loud, like proper "HAhaha!"

Is the quality of pizza better from a tiny restaurant hidden away in an Italian village using only fresh ingredients? I'm sure it is. But Domino's delivers something good enough, cheap enough, and hot enough.

So for a laugh I threw out a toot:-

In a post yesterday @Edent@mastodon.social said and I quote:- "But Domino's delivers something good enough, cheap enough, and hot enough."

I have never laughed so hard in my life.🤣

You sir, are wrong on four counts. Three if the driver phones me for directions.

He responded with a simple:

@mort8088@toot.wales then why do people keep ordering from them?

Not gonna lie, I think something broke in me and I went off on a rant, but I stopped myself and said I'd do a blog post...

Same reason Facebook and Twitter are a thing.

Most people are so busy doing their own stuff they don't want the extra cognitive load of thinking.

They think their time is better spent elsewhere. "I'll just do this thing, it's easy, it's simple, It's quicker."

Mastodon? No thanks, someone else can pick a server for me, Bluesky it is or better yet Threads.

My own Website? No thanks, WordPress.com will sort it for me or I could just use Facebook Pages.

Jellyfin? That's what Netflix is for.

Unless someone has a vested interest in a thing, almost good enough will do.

Apple has built their entire empire on the fact that they can tell people what they want from their devices and charge a fortune for the privilege.

Microsoft went the other way and gave people software that barely works at a fraction of the cost and said "but you have choice..."

A thing doesn't become the most widely used popular thing because it's good, it's because it's easy, and I'm mad as hell about it.

This wasn't supposed to be a rant at Terence, just something that I wanted to get off my chest.

Hugs 🤗
